Which class is my Fiesta XR2 eligible for?
Which class is my Fiesta XR2 eligible for?
I'll be competing in class 4B: Sports Libre Cars over 1700cc. Its a bit of an odd class to be in, grouped in with all manner of hybrids, but the nature of the modifications I've made to my Fiesta, preclude me from entering the 3B: Modified Production Cars class, as I've changed the engine from that fitted to the original model. Or it depends on how you interpret the rules. The rule book says "The engine block and cylinder head must be externally identifiable as that fitted to the original homologated model". So, I could argue that the Fiesta is fitted with the 1800 Zetec-E in the RS1800 16V model, and that my car is also a Fiesta, and therefore the rule has not been broken.
To be safe though, I'll be entered in the 4B class, not 3B. No point in trying to run in a class I'm not eligible for.
Class 4B includes Special Saloons, which are defined as "Saloon based cars which have been homologated to FIA Appendix 'J' Group A (or 1/2)", which of course the Mk1 Fiesta was, as it was rallied at international level in the 70's and 80's. As for the different engine, rule J25.5.1 says "Change of power unit is permitted", which allows me to compete as a Special Saloon.
