I'm going to use this section to explain things like gear ratio's, competition tyre sizes, competition oil grades, and some tuning basics. If you've got a technical question, about the Fiesta, or something about engines, or competition cars, send it in and I'll try to answer it here. I'm afraid I can't reply to any more "How do I put a Zetec engine in my car" questions, because basically, the answer lies within the pages of this site. |
Q |
Where did you get the body kit from? |
A |
MC Rallying on the Isle of White. It's the "Rally Arch kit" that you want. http://www.mcrallying.uk.com |
Q |
Will the Zetec engine go into my Mk2, Mk3 Fiesta or Mk3, Mk4 Escort? |
A |
Most definitely yes! Check these Zetec conversion sites out for details. Zetec engine in to a Mk2 Fiesta Zetec engine in to a Mk3+ Fiesta The ZVH engine bible!! The Mk3 and Mk4 Escorts are not that different from the Fiesta. Same challenges with engine mountings etc. The Escort usually has a bigger engine bay than the Fiesta, so space shouldn't be a problem. |
Q |
What's involved in getting the 2.0 Zetec engine in to the Fiesta |
A |
Please read my Step-by-step guide, summarising exactly what is involved

Q |
Can you turbo charge the Zetec? |
A |
Yes, the Zetec responds very well to a Turbo conversion, check out the following sites which list turbo conversions for the Zetec engine Zetec-turbo.co.uk Zetecturbo.com *New site December 2002 The ZVH engine bible!! The Fiesta Turbo site |
Q |
I want to fit bigger diameter & width wheels and tyres to my Fiesta. Do you know what offset I need? |
A |
My 15" compomotive wheels have an ET35 offset, which I've been told is the standard offset for after market wheels for FWD Fords. But even with ET35 I still have to run spacers at the rear, otherwise the 8.1" wide tyres hit the inner wheel arch. Feedback I've received infers that ET37 is the preferred offset!

Q |
What's the best oil to use in my Zetec engine? |
A |
I only recommend fully synthetic engine oil in the Zetec. In the Series One Zetec, you have to use 5W30 grade or better, because the cylinder heads suffered from sticking valves if the incorrect grade of oil were used. The later Zetecs are not as prone to the sticky inlet/exhaust valve problems associated with early cars, but you should still use 5W30 or better. I've used 0W40 Mobil 1, which proved fine, but I've changed to 76 Racing 5W30 in 2005 with great results. The oil pressure climbs faster when cold, and seems fine too when the engine is hot. The 76 Racing oil can be bought on-line too, and its cheaper than Mobil 1.

Q |
Who produces tuning parts for the Zetec? |
A |
New on the scene for the Zetec-S engine are CTM Performance Engineering in Essex (TEL: 0208-554-3534) |
Q |
How do I give my Fiesta better handling? |
A |
Lower profile tyres definitely help. The 185/60R13 tyres on the Mk1 and Mk2 are OK, but you do get a certain amount of roll in the sidewall under cornering. 195/50R13 tyres make quite a difference, though they're a snug fit in those arches. Fit uprated gas adjustable dampers all round, but keep the back end at the lowest setting, and fit lowered (-30mm) and uprated springs. Keep the back end soft, or she'll jump out on you under hard cornering. Nylon suspension bushes should be fitted all round. Standard ventilated disk's at the front are more than adequate, but fit Ferodo DS-2500 pads for fade-less brakes. Cross drilled or grooved disks aren't necessary for even competition road use.
